Sunday with the New Year Puppies

Today I went to spend a few hours with the New Years Puppies to help their foster mom at feeding time.  It was an amazing experience. As I arrived the puppies were waking up: The complains for food was not too bad at first, but when their foster mom came by and their smelled her close it was a frenzy and there were hard to contain. They have already very different personalities and they are very good at letting you know when it is past dinner time… clearly they must have some lab in them!

The puppies have started to feed a little on their own which can get quite messy but we still need to supplement their meals with milk.

After dinner it was bath time. The puppies are three weeks old but you can already tell who likes the water and who is not so fond of water. All of them were good sport and they did not complain too much. Bath time is also a good time to stimulate them to pee. Puppy Bath 3

And finally, the favorite part of any dog;s bath: towel rubbing time. We rub them, snuggled, dried them and then set them down for a nap on warmers with their siblings.

Anyone who was ever involved in dog rescue knows how hard it is, yet moments like this makes it all worth it. Foster mom is amazing and happy to wake up at 4:30am to do all this in the middle of the night. I don’t know how to thank her. These puppies are alive because of her and thanks to a huge network of people who was determined to not let them die. It take an army of volunteers to do this and I could not be more proud to be part of it.

I raised a litter of 12 w/mom that had hard time feeding them – it was the best experience ever

There will be a special place for the foster mom in Dog Heaven for taking care of these
little ones. Cannot thank her enough. Just a little kiss from them will make it well worth it.
