MEET ALVIN. He is 19 weeks old and approx 25 pounds. He is a tall lanky little boy who is still figuring out what do with all those legs! He is FAST when he wants to be. His puppy crazy sprints are done at high speed and very entertaining to watch. Alvin needs to be in a home with another dog. He learns quickly from our dogs and he is much more comfortable in new environments around them. He has experienced our move into a new house and has adjusted very well to everything being in different places and a new yard. Alvin has learned our new routines right along with our 5 other dogs. Alvin is very agile. Baby gates and puppy pens are easily scaled if it means he doesn’t have to be alone. He does fine in his crate during the day in the same room as the rest of the pack. He sleeps in his crate at night in our bedroom peacefully until the alarm goes off.
He has mastered “sit”, learned “down” and knows “in your house” and knows where he needs to be to be served a meal. We are finally making some progress on house training although it does requires frequent trips outside for him to be successful. Alvin has not been around cats or kids so we aren’t sure how is with them. He is a good natured little boy and would make a great addition for a family with another playful energetic dog(s).
It is hard to get good pictures of Alvin because he is so busy. His coat is turning from the black mixed with brown color to a dark brown. It is beautiful!
Foster Update 08/07/2018: He is shy with new people and in new environments. Alvin loves having our dogs as company, particularly our 6 year olds Abby and Andie. He finds security in them and would love to have another furry friend in his new home. We don’t know how he is around cats. Alvin spent the week at the beach with us and our extended family which includes 15 kids ranging from 2 to 15 years old. Based on that experience we think he would do better in a home with older children since the loud noises and fast movements are a little overwhelming for him.
Alvin has accompanied our pups at day care a couple days and has done well according to the team there. He rides well in a vehicle even for the longer trips. He loves all toys – soft squeaky toys and chew toys – and dog beds. He sleeps peacefully on a stuffed animal every night in his crate in our room. Alvin is crated during the times we are working. He is crated in the same room as the rest of our pack and he does very well. Alvin is food motivated and learns routines and commands relatively quickly. He has learned “sit”, “down” and “in your house”. We continue to work on reinforcing house training. Alvin goes through stretches where he does really well and then periods where gets too distracted by things outside or playing tag/wrestling with the others to do his business outside. Sometime a leashed walk, frequent trips outside and lots of praise are needed to get him back on track.
Alvin is patiently waiting for his forever family. Come meet this sweet boy at our next event this Saturday.
