Meet Lenore
She came from the same situation as Amelia, and she is also in rough shape. Lenore is about 10-12 years old, and she copes with her fear but shutting down and hiding in any corner she can find. My heart broke watching her try to dig through a corner in our vet’s treatment room to get away. She seemed to relax a bit with gentle touches and soft words, but it will also take time to show her everything will be okay.
Lenore also has a severe infection in both ears, and her right ear flap is scarred and missing a chunk at the bottom. Her teeth are also severely worn, and she looks to have had a few litters in her lifetime. Her skin is so severely infected that it feels like elephant skin, and I can’t imagine how uncomfortable she must have been. We gave her a medicated bath for the first time yesterday, and despite her fear, Lenore relaxed and let the warm water soothe her skin.
As our vet team begins the process to get Lenore healthy, she would greatly benefit from a foster home where she can decompress and start to learn how to stop being in fight or flight mode. She needs a special person, someone very patient who can be gentle but strong, as she is a flight risk. If you think you could be that person, please email labfriendinfo@gmail.com.
Given their condition and steps it will take to get them better, the vet care for Amelia and Lenore has already surpassed $1500. If you can find it in your heart to donate to their care, please visit https://labradorfriends.com/
Can’t foster? Can’t adopt? Can’t donate? Please share! Sharing our posts on FB and IG and telling your family and friends about LFS is the best way to help us find forever homes for these sweet dogs!
She was such a trooper during and after her dental and oral mass removal, and we were so happy to learn that her mass was benign! Since her surgery, this sweet girl’s confidence has continued to grow! She has taken it upon herself to come into our room at night on several occasions, as she knows that means more snuggles with her canine foster siblings I myself was even graced with some of her cuddles one night! Sweet Lenny has also shown a lot more interest in playing with her foster siblings in the backyard, and is now a total pro getting in and out of the car for her laser/daycare trips! This girl continues to impress us with how far she’s come.
If it’s not one thing it’s another
Our sweet Lenore has a mass in her mouth. She’ll get dental next week to remove the mass and send it off to make sure there is nothing to be concerned about. These vet bills are adding up this month. Please donate if you can
.
Our precious girl is getting more and more comfortable each day. Her favorite spot is still the bed in her room, though she’s taken it upon herself to climb up and get all cozy on the couch in there a few times She’s also slowly but surely getting more comfortable in different areas around the house. She LOVES spending time outside with her foster siblings and is also a big fan of snuggling up with them at the end of the day While she’s still not a huge fan of getting in the car for her biweekly laser and daycare sessions, she has made significant progress and even started getting in the car on her own this evening!! Sweet Lenny (as we lovingly call her) is also incredibly appreciative of all of her donated items! Her comfy beds, mats, blankets, and yummy treats have helped make this transition as smooth as possible Although the discovery of her oral mass and subsequent surgery is upsetting, we plan on spoiling the heck out of her and keeping her as comfortable as possible leading up to and following her dental and mass removal.
Foster Update 10/30: We got Lenore out to our living room tonight. Look at her progress!!!! We are so proud of this girl! She has come so far

Update: I know this update has been long awaited for many!!
Lenore is slowly settling into her new foster home. She still won’t leave her kennel, but I can pet her a little bit and she’s been loving to each cheese! She loves to nap to some calming piano music.
Thank you so much to Lenore’s sweet foster mom! It makes the world of a difference to these babies.

Update: Lenore got a bath this morning to get all ready for her new foster mom to pick her up today! Sweet Amelia was right there trying to comfort her!
Her foster mom reports that she’s still very nervous and has spent the majority of the afternoon in her crate but did eat dinner which is a great sign!
We can’t wait to see this girl start coming out of her shell!

update: Lenore is one of our sweet seniors from our hoarding situation. She has been kept in an outside kennel with many other dogs so she is very dog friendly. She has become very shut down in our boarding facility and has just been staying with her head in the back corner
