It’s with great sadness we share that sweet BJ peacefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge late Sunday afternoon (Mother’s Day), after another brief stay in the ER. His tired body just had too many major obstacles to overcome and couldn’t fight anymore, but we were by his side and holding him every step of the way.

BJ was more than just a “foster” dog to us and had honestly become a part of our family over the last 4 or so months.  While our hearts are broken and we miss him dearly, we know that he enjoyed every moment of the short time he spent with us and LFS and that he was truly loved.  We’ll always remember the adorable way his teeth chattered while waiting for food, how he was just too much of a gentleman to get on the furniture even though we tried our best to corrupt him, his amazing breath, his knack for always catching us napping on the couch and awkwardly staring right in our faces until we woke up, and how giving him a treat meant being prepared to lose a finger at any time.  Fly high sweet, sweet boy! You are SO loved!

BJ’s sad story is just another example of why heartworm prevention is so important!  Please take time today to ensure your dogs are up to date on their preventative meds and keep it that way.  If his story can help even just 1 dog avoid the senseless suffering that BJ endured, we know that would make him very happy.  Our hope is that BJ’s story will impact many more lives though!
