Sadly, she loved her family and her doggie sibling a little too much and became very territorial over them. Her family made the tough decision of giving her back to LFS knowing they just couldn’t keep up with the strong training she needed.Gryffin needs to be the only dog in the house, and have an experienced dog owner that can be a strong “pack leader” to keep up with her training and to make her feel secure.
Older, calmer children are a must.Gryffin is currently boarding and doing doggie daycare and loving it! She does get along with dogs of all sizes and listens so well when we call her name.
Foster update: Gryffin has been doing well with our LFS trainer, who’s been refreshing her training and helping her feel more confident. In the past, she’s been protective, likely due to fear of losing the people and things she loves, but she’s incredibly sweet, calm, and loves finding sunny spots to relax. She’s making great progress and will be the perfect dog for the right family.
Gryffin would thrive in a home with experienced dog owners who are confident and comfortable continuing to re-enforce her training. We also think she would do best as an only dog with older children.
Trainer Update: Gryffin is doing extremely well, showing no signs of resource guarding or possessiveness. She doesn’t have fight reactivity but instead shows flight reactivity. As a high-ranking female, she handles other dogs well, giving calm and proper corrections. She’s even been gentle with a puppy who tends to annoy the older dogs and provide the puppy with gentle corrections. Gryffin has done great on leash training with high-value treats.
Since Sunday, Gryffin has been staying with me, my wife, our five-year-old son, two dogs, and another trainee. She hasn’t shown any possessiveness or resource guarding.
The only reactivity has been along the fence line when other dogs enter the outside daycare area, likely due to the narrow space. She responds well to a strong “leave it” command and settles quickly.
Foster update: We have a little swimmer with some sass (see 2nd picture ). Gryffin is a super sweet, very well trained girl! With a rough start as a puppy, she has taken on the protector roll and has trouble trusting others when it comes to her people. She would do best in a home as the only dog and with a family that is comfortable continuing her training so she knows that she doesn’t need to protect everyone anymore She would also do best in a home with out a lot of visitors or little kids so she can feel relaxed and safe in her forever home .
