Happy Gotcha Day Morgan!

MEET MORGAN. When Morgan joined our rescue , there was no telling what she has been through in the past, but we don’t think it’s been the easiest ride for her. Morgan was found on the street, pregnant and alone. The nice couple that found her took care of her for awhile while they searched for her owners, but no one stepped up to claim her.

On top of being pregnant, Morgan is heartworm positive and has an infection in both of her ears. She is missing a chunk of her left ear as well. When we x-ray’d her to stage her heartworm disease and see how far along she was in her pregnancy, we found evidence of the certain terror she must have lived through in her past. Poor Morgan’s body is covered in buckshot. We don’t know what circumstances would’ve caused her to be shot at, or a piece of her ear ripped off, but I can tell you she didn’t deserve it.

Morgan is the sweetest dog EVER. Despite all she’s had to endure so far, she is a happy girl and still so trusting of humans. She sits in front of you and just looks up with her pretty eyes, begging for you to pet her. I couldn’t tell her no. You would never guess just by looking at her that she’s had so much happen to her. We went outside so she could enjoy the spring sunshine, and Morgan just closed her eyes and “smiled” as she sniffed the air. I was immediately reminded why we rescue. I think they know when they are finally safe.

Foster Update 09/04/18: We’ve had Morgan for 2 months now and she’s really coming out of her shell. She’s very playful with us and our older lab. She loves to snuggle up with you at the end of the day too. She’s very patient and sweet with our 2 toddlers. She’s crate trained, house trained and walks well on a leash. She’s still getting her heartworm treatment but did well with the first round of shots. Morgan is a super sweet dog that’s easy to train because she’s food motivated.

Foster Update 07/10/18: We’ve been fostering Morgan for a little while now and she is a great dog. She’s currently a little underweight due to just having finished nursing eight puppies. However, we’ve got her on a much improved diet so she’s gaining weight quickly. She’s currently around 56 lbs.

Morgan joined our family and immediately fit right in. We’ve got a seven year old Lab as well as two children under the age of four, so we’ve got a fairly “active” and sometimes chaotic household. None of that has phased Morgan. She just calmly plays and interacts with the kids and our dog and has done so immediately upon arrival.

Morgan walks very well on a leash, with no pulling or lunging. She’s only had a couple of accidents in the house but it’s probably from her heartworm medications. Morgan doesn’t chew, whine, or bark excessively.

Morgan is very people centric and wants to be part of the family. She’ll follow you around if you’re doing anything interesting, but usually she just lays on her bed or near the closest air vent. She appears pretty food motivated and she eats well; as most labs do!

We think Morgan would do very well with a either a family or a single person, especially considering that she is a medium sized lab. Her personality is very sweet and gentle. If you’re looking for a great dog, rather than a puppy, Morgan is ready for you.

Puppy Update 04/19/18: Morgan blessed us with 8 beautiful puppies! There are two girls and six boys. Everyone is happy and doing fantastic! Unfortunately one little pup was born with a deformed paw, but he is nursing well and doing great so far. We will continue to monitor him as he grows and evaluate what medical steps may be needed to ensure a good quality of life, but at this time our vet staff is confident that he will be just fine! Morgan has been a great momma and is taking good care of her babies. We will update more as they grow!

Foster Update 08/01/18: We’ve had Morgan about a month now and her personality is really coming out. She’s a big cuddle bug. She loves to sit or stand by you or cuddle on you. Morgan is crate trained as well as potty trained. She takes treats gently and walks well on a leash. She is a really sweet dog and rarely barks.

She interacts very well with our dog, an older male lab. She’s also excellent with our two toddlers, joining right in with their games and always patrolling for a stray bit of food.

When we first got her, her coat and skin weren’t in the best shape. However, after a month of regular grooming, good food, and salmon oil, she’s gaining weight and her coat looks much, much better. We are trying to get her to about 60-65 lbs, which will be a good weight for her.

Morgan will make an excellent dog for anyone. We think she’d be fine for a single person or a couple and is clearly a great fit for a family.
