New Beginnings 2009
Peanut
December 20, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Peanut!
January 7, 2010 – Wanted to give you an update on Peanut (now Reina). She is doing so well and very quickly adjusted to life at our house! She loves her toys, especially her rawhides and loves chasing them around the house. She is such a quick learner and so smart! We love having her as part of our family and thank you so much for bringing her into our lives.
Beauty
December 12, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Beauty!
December 15, 2009 – Thought you all might enjoy seeing a couple of pictures of Beauty. Elena I will send some more later, Shelly I wanted to include you on the first set. We are all doing well. Beauty is so calm and is content to just lie down in the den during homework time, She loves the yard and we have been working to get her to Come when we call. She definitely misses Shelly’s dogs but I am sure she will get used to being the one and only!
We set the HomeAgain microchip program online today it was very easy to do and the vet put her HomeAgain info in their data base as well. When we were in the vet’s office someone brought a beautiful German Sheppard Puppy in that they had just found but unfortunately it did not have a microchip, really drove home the importance of having it. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.
Gucci
December 12, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Gucci!
Burberry
December 5, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Burberry!
January 7, 2010 – Good evening! I just wanted to give you guys an update on Burberry (now Achilles). He is doing really well!!! He comes out of his shell a little more day by day. He has already learned sit and down in just the first week. We are still working on fetching and some other tricks. An even bigger joy is that he hasn’t eaten anything (completely) in the house besides his food and chew toys. Attached are some photos including his first trip to Bass Pro Shops and him practicing sit. We will be sure to keep the photos and updates coming. Thanks again for everyone’s help!!

November 11, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Maizie!
November 12, 2009 – She did great! She slept on the floor just beside me in bed and didn’t move until I woke her this morning to go out. Holly and Maizie are getting along great and so is the cat. She seems very comfortable in her new home. Thanks for everything.
Chance
November 11, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Chance!
November 12, 2009 – Well, Chance spent his first 1/2 day and night with us and he was good. He slept on the bed cuddled between my husband and I and was quite content. He is good with my other two dogs except when it comes to toys and treats. He tries to steal them away and Maggie doesn’t like that. Of course, she tries to steal them from him also. We will work on this – I sure with time he will settle down when he realizes nobody is going to take his toys/treats.
January 17, 2010 – Thought you might want to see how Chance is fitting in at our house. I have attached a photo taken this past Sunday with our 4 year old grandson Jake. Isn’t life grand!
Rowdy
November 9, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Rowdy!
Rowdy came for a visit on 3/20/10.
Juliet
November 8, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Juliet!
Morgan
November 5, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Morgan!
November 9, 2009 – She is doing great!! We have had an exciting couple of days. We also went to the dog park, where we had a great time running around and playing with the other dogs. Morgan was really well behaved and had a lot of fun. We also learned that Morgan is awesome at fetch. We played for a long time throwing the tennis ball–she found it every time and brought it right back to us. She is a natural! (I guess that makes sense since she is a retriever :-).
Morgan has adjusted very well to the house and has been so well-behaved. Our cat, Singha, was naturally skittish around Morgan at first and she spent the first 24 hours or so hiding in the closet. However, she eventually came out to join the rest of the family. When Morgan approached her, she hissed a little but held her ground. Morgan wasn’t aggressive with her at all and respected Singha’s need for space. Now, after just three days, they are hanging out in the same room together with no problems–an impressive feat more for Singha than for Morgan since Morgan was already accustomed to cats–but we are both glad that Singha has adjusted so quickly.
Best of all is that Morgan has already improved by leaps and bounds when it comes to not pulling on the leash. We didn’t use any special training tools–just her regular collar and a 6 foot leash. We followed the advice of dog training books and simply stopped walking whenever Morgan started to pull. It took a day or so, but she is already so much better. Now, she can get around the block with us while maintaining a decent amount of slack on the leash. What a fast learner!
We are so happy to have Morgan as part of our family. Thank you so much for helping us to adopt her. We will send more updates and pictures soon.

September 27, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Tony!
Ghiradelli
September 21, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Ghiradelli!
September 22, 2009 – He is doing GREAT. Stover (formerly known as Ghiradelli) has on the green Bandana, Sanibel the red and Sierra and Sam are naked. I will try to take some more pictures of him this weekend and get one of Velma and little Hope with him and send to you.
From left to right: Stover, Sam, Sierra, and Sanibel. Aren’t they sooo cute together?
September 30, 2009 – I apologize that it has taken so long to get some pics but the weather has not been the best down here. I am still trying to get a pic of Velma and Hope with Stover, but yesterday evening he thought it was best to take off and go for a swim than to have his picture taken. <LOL>
He is doing GREAT. Very gentle with Hope, has his set bed time of about 9 to 10:00, when it gets about that time he goes to his bed and crashes for the night, no accidents in the house. He is a very loving boy. And he gets along wonderfully with Sam and Sierra when they visit. I will have all 3 of them out in the field on Wednesday and will try to get a picture of them supervising us work.
Coco
September 19, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Coco!

Shelby Belle
September 19, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Shelby Belle!
Alex
September 19, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Alex!
September 28, 2009 – We could not be more pleased. He attached himself to me the first day and is a part of the family. My main concern was having a big dog with the two little ones but they probably play with him the most and he is a gentle giant with them. I’ve had him off the lease some and he is pretty well behaved but needs training. He seems to know all the parlor tricks, which the kids love. He’s sitting beside me now chewing on a rawhide. He sleeps in our bedroom and has not destroyed anything in the house when we have left him alone. Thanks. He is now known as Sammy.
Peyton
September 19, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Peyton!
Leina
September 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Leina!
October 12, 2009 – So here’s some of her cuddling with Mason last time she was over. Sophie (formerly known as Leina) is doing wonderfully! My dad has enrolled her in puppy school and they go everywhere together. When he lets her outside she runs to the car door and sits until she realizes that they aren’t going anywhere or he lets her in. 🙂 He takes her on lots of walks and she loves coming over to play with Reese and Mason. Her potty training is going really well and she will go in her crate to sleep when she is tired- so cute. They are really happy with her.
Bengie
September 6, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Bengie!
September 10, 2009 – Thank you for all your help. Remi (formerly known as Bengie) has been doing great. She has been a great puppy so far. The car ride home was very uneventful, she just slept on our laps. She has had a little trouble with the potty training but I have noticed a large improvement already.
Although it has been a lot of work, she has been worth every second. I will keep you posted and will send you pictures as soon as I can. Thanks so much.
Sully
August 27, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Sully!
January 19, 2010 – Praline (formerly known as Sully) is doing absolutely great. We have another dog (a 1.5 year old labradoodle) and they are the best of friends. I really appreciate what you (and Lauren) do for these animals. You have a very happy “rescue” living in Louisville, Kentucky!

August 30, 2009 – Beaux (formerly known as Roger) is doing great. He just had a good check up yesterday at the vet. Wrigley loves his new playmate too. He’s such a gentle soul. We just got back from a long walk and a visit to the coffee shop. On the leash, he is so good. I have taken him for a couple short runs with me and he loves it. We are very pleased with our new buddy and I think he digs us too. Thanks for keeping in touch.

December 12, 2009 – Miss Molly came back to visit at the annual Christmas party.
Candy
July 19, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Candy!
Shea
July 11, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Shea!
July 21, 2009 – We have been meaning to email you. Things are going great with Shea. She is so sweet and so very happy. Things are going well – she does well in her crate and doing pretty good at housetraining. WE have more issues with her pooping inside than wetting. So we are getting there. She is doing well with Sparky our dog and very very interested in the cat who is not too interested in her. I have not downloaded my pictures but will send you some. She went to the lake with us this weekend and loved the water. My daughter is absolutely loving her and doing a great job as well.
Wally
June 22, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Wally!
September 20, 2009 – Wally came to visit us at adoption. He looked great! After only a few weeks or training with Alex from Sit Means Sit North he is now so much more relaxed and happy. They are able to leave him alone (not crated! The crate was useless anyway as he is Mr Houdini) without damage. You can tell that he is in absolute adoration of his little two legged brothers as much as they are of him.
He stayed for a while and helped us keep track of the little puppies….We love visitors!
Miller
June 21, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Miller!
July 12, 2009 – Kobe (formerly known as Miller) is really a joy! He has such a sweetness about him. He is getting a lot of love in our family. We can’t keep our hands off him! He had his first vet visit Friday and checked out beautifully. He weighs 24.9 pounds! He’s actually very beautiful! My daughter is really enjoying training him and general duties. She has brushed his teeth, brushed him (he doesn’t really like that either at this point), and clipped his nails. Kobe has met other dogs and does very well w/ them. These are older dogs that we know have good owners and have their shots and are predictable.
July 20, 2009 – Attached are a couple of pictures of Kobe and Allie. One of our favorite things to do is swing with him! He loves it! He loves the wind! Swimming is a different story. We have the little baby pool that we fill up with just a little water just to get his feet wet. He does everything he can do to get back out. We use treats too! We’ll keep working with him though. It’s so funny! Our legs are so scratched up! We are working on not jumping up on people when he sees them now. We are really enjoying Kobe! We’ll send future pictures too! Thanks for all you’ve done!
Missy
June 21, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Missy!
Fenway
June 21, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Fenway!
July 1, 2009 – I wanted to send you a quick note giving you an up date. He is doing really well. We are working on his house training, which is as much our fault as it is his. He is getting bigger. I believe he is up to 18 to 20 lbs. Not sure how much he weighed when we got him but he is definitely bigger. I have included a video of his first swim. We have a creek not far from our house and we take Henna (our chocolate lab) down there all the time. He had a blast as you can see and he loves the water.
Buddy
June 21, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Buddy!
July 26, 2009 – Just wanted to give you a report on how Buddy (now Bruno) is doing. As you can see from the attached picture he is doing great. He is truly a great dog and we love him. Thank you!
Turner
June 21, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Turner!
Sparkles
June 15, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Sparkles!
Wrigley
June 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Wrigley!
Jake
June 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Jake!
June 17, 2009 – I am amazed at how well Jake is adjusting. He wags his whole body when he sees me and He seems to love the new house and the new backyard. I have kept up with his feeding and bathroom schedule, so no issues there. He sleeps on his bed in my room at night without any issues – aside from thinking my sock on the floor was a chew toy. He also loves his crate and seems content to be there during the day. I have taken him leash walking around the neighborhood and he did really well with the neighbors and their kids. Yesterday we went to the park for a walk. He loved playing in the water at the creek which was fun to see and he didn’t have any issues with any other dogs. I think I will need to work on his leash skills a bit, but the training will probably be fun for both of us. It is great to have Jake in the house!
Oliver
June 13, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Oliver!
Savannah
June 13, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Savannah!
Toby
June 11, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Toby!
Moses
June 7, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Moses!
June 10, 2009 – I have attached another picture of Moses. My daughter and wife have decided to rename him to Milo. He is going on 2 walks per day along with running around at the barn where my daughter rides her pony. We are going to try the dog park tonight for the first time.
After 2 walks and running around the barn yesterday he was so exhausted last night that he ended up sleeping with us in our bed (under the covers) until about 2 am. He then got down and slept in one of our dog beds.’
July 21, 2009 – I wanted to give you an update on Milo (formerly known as Moses). We just LOVE him. He has been a great addition to our family. He is such a sweet and funny dog. His favorite place to sleep is either on the couch or on my husband – if Mark is laying on the couch, Milo will climb on top of him, curl up and fall asleep – all 98lbs of him! We feel we got really lucky to have such a great dog. He has made a friend with one of our neighbors dogs. He stands and whines for him if the other dog isn’t out. They will wrestle and run for ever. Thank you again for allowing us to have this great dog. We truly love him.
Harlow
June 5, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Harlow!
October 6, 2009 – Harlow is doing great, she is incredible! She wont be graduating in my current class, due to her handler breaking his finger and being sent home. She will probably be in my next class which starts in Feb, or will be a replacement dog for a handler already in the field. All this is yet to be determined.
Beckham
June 4, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Beckham!
June 5, 2009 – Grady (formerly known as Beckham) is very happy. He spent the first 2 hours in Ben’s office as I predicted. All his new toys are in the office. He seems fine with his crate; he checked it out but of course has not stayed in it yet. We took a walk and he was very good on the leash/ no pulling and tugging. We love him!!
June 10, 2009 – The guys are very happy with each other 🙂 We are enjoying every minute with him!!
September 2, 2009 – I wanted to send you some pictures and report that he now weighs 68 pounds! He does not know he is a big boy and still climbs up in our laps. He has gotten himself into a few messes and we have to be careful of him bolting from the backyard, but he runs free at the lake! Needless to say he loves it there. He can swim but I like the life jacket on him so he can play and play without me always worrying. Again we thank you for our precious boy! I am back at work so the guys have really bonded even more.
Polka Dot
June 2, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Polka Dot!
June 5, 2009 – Daisy (formerly known as Polka Dot) is doing great!!! She is such a sweetie! She only whimpered a little in her crate the first night and then slept like a baby. We found a black Lab stuffed animal that Sarah had and gave it to her. She carries it around in her mouth and sleeps with it in her crate. It is so cute. Thankfully, there has been no separation anxiety from Sparkles. She loves to be around people and follows us everywhere.
She loves to run and play with the girls outside and gets along well with my 3 cats. Her and Chip (my 13 yr old male cat) like to play together. He thinks he is a dog… She is very gentle with all of us.
This has been the easiest and best experience with bringing a new pet into our home. I am so thankful that I contacted your organization!
Tommy
May 23, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Tommy!
May 24, 2009 – Thank you for the copy of the contract. Tommy is GREAT! He has an incredible personality. After I left yesterday, I actually went to my brother’s house… and Tommy and Cassie got along so well. They loved playing with each other and bonded immediately. He only woke me up a few times last night. The good thing is… he is COMPLETELY house trained. He’ll go straight to the door and cry a little when he has to go outside. He was on the bed with me last night.. and he just cried a little at the end of the bed when he needed to go out. He is also a great ‘car riding’ dog.. he didn’t cry at all in his carrier. I will definitely keep you updated!!
June 10, 2009 – I’ve attached a few recent picks of Chip (I renamed Tommy to Chip)…
August 1, 2009 – Just look at how handsome I am now!!!!
Tyson
May 20, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Tyson!
June 1, 2009 – Tyson, unless he is in a rambunctious mood, is very well behaved. He occasionally will get a burst of energy and want to play hard in the house but for the most part he has settled in very nicely. He had a bath today and was so much easier than Bo ever thought about being. Bo used to walk in circles while you were trying to wash his 100 plus LB frame.
I think Ty was disciplined with a strong arm at some point in his life. When he does something that he thinks is bad, he will cower some. For example, I was watering the plants on the front porch and he snuck out and did not come back when called, he just stopped. When I reached for his collar to walk him back in he shrunk down like I was going to hit him or something. At any rate, I am sure once he figures out how spoiled he actually is, he’ll get over this!
He does not need to be leashed in the unfenced front yard which makes getting in and out of the car etc so much easier. He simply stays within our acreage chasing squirrels and bounds inside when called.
My nephew was in last week from up north and wanted to steal him. They took Ty hiking around and really bonded. Apparently you can not adopt in Mass as there are no available puppies. Can’t imagine that with the surplus in GA.
Thanks for our new addition, we are truly enjoying him to the max! And do know that if you are up our way you can visit at any time, we might even let you take him hiking! Apparently he is handy to pull one up big hills as per my dog walker.
Hope
May 16, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Hope!
June 5, 2009 – Molly (formerly Hope) is doing great! She comes to work with me each day and is lying behind me now as I send this email. Molly jogs 2 miles with my wife and I most every day and loves to go to the lake for a swim. Her manners have improved greatly and she sleeps on her bed (not crated) each night. She is friends with most of the dogs in our neighbor and is very curious at all the birds and wildlife in our back yard.
Caroline and I are very happy with Molly and she is very content and adjusting well. She is becoming quite a lap baby for both of us! She learns quickly, heals on her lead, and loves to play fetch with Caroline. I’ll keep you updated as we go along.
Diego
May 16, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Diego!
August 1, 2009 – Kubka (formerly known as Diego) is doing well- growing like a weed- weighs about 33 lbs. now. He’s really strong so we are hoping the obedience training kicks in soon! He’s smart and active and just as cute as I’m sure you remember- I’ll try to post some new pictures soon.
Willow
May 16, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Willow!
May 23, 2009 – Just wanted to give you an update on “Willow” – we adopted at the Petapalooza last weekend. Her new name is “Macy” and she’s already responding well to it. She’s such a quick learner and loves to play fetch. She listens really well and the moment you look at her, she starts wagging that tail wanting some love…she’s the sweetest doggie, very loving and smiles a lot when you rub her belly. She immediately learned to use the doggie door and goes outside whenever she feels like it but she’s more of an indoor dog as she loves to be around people! Yesterday we all went for a walk (including Robby – our elder dog) and then my hubby dropped me off and Robby and took Macy on an additional 4-5 mile walk…she was exhausted when she came back and took a long nap after that but my hubby’s is in LOVE with little Macy…she’s a wonderful doggie and we just couldn’t be happier with the new addition to the family. Anyway, just wanted to give you an update – thanks “Jenny” for suggesting we adopt Willow…she worked out perfectly!
Hunter
May 15, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Hunter!
May 19, 2009 – So far Hunter has been perfect! He let me bathe him with the hose outside on Saturday, has been playing with my dog and wagging his tail. When we go for walks he is still somewhat timid – but he is doing great and so far nothing but a joy! Everyone loves him!
Becca
May 8, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Becca!
May 20, 2009 – Thanks for the water bottle idea- it worked wonders! She is now hesitant before she jumps if she even jumps at all! She does like to squeeze through the smallest space in the door when you leave the house and try to escape out (I think she just wants to come). She got a cut on her leg on Thursday at day care (who knows if it was Savannah, another dog, or just her being clumsy?) we took her to vet to have it checked and it is fine, but they gave her a pink bandage to keep anything out of it. see the attached pictures. Her and Savannah have been great and only have had one little tif in over a week. One of them threw up and the other must have tried to eat it and someone didn’t like that! I was upstairs and yelled “hey” and they stopped! Oh, and we haven’t been using the crate. We found out that when we got home after her not being cooped up, they were both less crazy and we feel we can trust both of them now. There has been shoes, socks, etc.. in front of Becca and she won’t pick them up unless it’s a tennis ball!
June 10, 2009 – Just an update and some photos on Becca and Savannah. So far so good minus an ear infection Becca got from a swim in Lake Lanier. Both dogs are getting along well, realizing that they each have their own area to eat out of their bowls. Treats are only the areas of difficulty with them getting snippy at each other, but we are working on that. We’ve been able to get Becca to sit in front of her bowl and will not eat until we tell her so – very surprised we were able to do this. We did find out Becca was afraid of metal grating. We took the dogs to Ammicola Falls. There are lots of steps with landings made of metal gratings, we had to pick her up over the gratings – she would NOT walk over them, very funny (but tiring). We are not sure yet who is the alpha of the two of them. Becca pretty much walks over Savannah (literally) but I don’t think she realizes she is pushing Savannah around.
Pickles
May 7, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Pickles!
Coco
April 25, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Coco!
Basia
April 25, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Basia!
Rocco
April 18, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Rocco!
April 20. 2009 – I renamed Rocco to Tanner, he’s doing okay, getting more comfortable with his surroundings. He’s definitely eating well, he wolfs down his food as soon as he gets it, I’ve been giving him 3 cups in the morning and evening. He’s had a couple of accidents, but working on it with him. Lots of energy, and he and my current lab are getting along good…I’ll continue to keep you guys posted, but it seems like he’s going to put weight on pretty quickly.
Cookie
April 18, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Cookie!
Coweta
March 29, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Coweta!
January 7, 2010 – Coors (formerly known as Coweta) all grown up and wonderful!
Brooklyn
March 27, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Brooklyn!
April 5, 2009 – Just wanted to update you on Miss Brooklyn. She is doing beautifully. I can’t get over how calm she is for a puppy. She has a routine now and by 10 pm, she is ready for bed. She is a perfect fit to our family. Right now, I’m watching her playing the back yard, well, she digging in our back yard. I have attached some new photos. I hope you enjoy.
May 2, 2009 – Just a few more pictures of Brooklyn. She’s Awesome!
Scotch
March 27, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Scotch!
April 4, 2009 – I’m writing to update you on Scotch (now known as Scout!). Our first week of getting-to-know-you has been interesting and educational! I could not have asked for a better dog! We’ve been meeting lots of people and other dogs, and everyone loves him. He’s always a well-behaved dog, and has quickly learned to sit on command. Training will start soon, and I think he’ll be great at it. Scout loves to go for long walks, and even after 3+ miles, he hardly seems worn out. He is still a little scared, and he walks right near me on walks, but he is getting more adventurous. He is also an avid chewer, and the only thing that has lasted longer than 10 minutes is one of my crocs. I happily gave him one to satisfy his chewing needs, as you can see in one of the pictures. He’s crated during the day and the only accident he has had was in the car on the way home on adoption day (must have been the nerves!). At night, I was set on having him sleep in his own bed, but he’s such a cuddle-bug, he’s quickly been allowed to sleep with me. All in all, things are going extremely well. I know we’ve still got a lot to learn together, but we’re off to a great start. Thank you!
Bear
March 22, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Bear!
March 25, 2009 – Bear has been doing very well and he is extremely tolerant of Hershey (Jax), they both have settled in very well with the kids and our schedule. Bear is such a loving dog and my younger children just adore him and give him plenty of attention! We are working on making the dogs understand that rough play is for outside not the furniture!
March 30, 2009 – Both Bear and Jax have settled in very well!! WE have a really good routine each day. They are both going to soccer practice with the family on Mondays and Saturdays. They get a long great, with Bear being the “big Brother”. Bear is very patient and playful with Jax (they are constantly wrestling). Bear is very intelligent! He can open doors using the door knobs!! He is very obedient as well and good on a leash!! He is a gentle giant with a big heart and we are very grateful to have him as a member of the family!! He seems very happy and his skin seems to be clearing up. We will be starting training class soon with both Bear and Jax and will keep you posted as they progress!

Daisy
March 21, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Daisy!
March 22, 2009 – Miss Daisy arrived home here in Habersham County in fine shape. We can tell she’d really prefer to ride in the front seat of the car, though. Tom’s already had her outside for some ball throwing…and she also seems to enjoy her new fuzzy baby. The first thing she did when she got in the house, however, was to race to the guest bath and have a long drink out of the toilet!! Good thing I’d just cleaned ’em. Here are a couple of photos…we will be in touch many times. She’ll calm down, I’m sure, as she realizes she’s not going to go back. Thanks again.
April 3, 2009 – Thought you’d like to see how much Daisy has relaxed into her new home with us (see attached photo)! She had her first well-dog visit with our vet yesterday, and aside from some panic when we left her there (guess she? thought she was being left there, permanently), everything’s fine. She is, indeed, obsessive-compulsive about the tennis ball and will nearly wrench your arm out trying to run after deer and squirrels.? Thursday is a “big barking day” for Daisy because she doesn’t seem to think the trash collector needs to be in our driveway! Will keep you updated, but, so far, so good. Daisy’s a good girl!
May 23, 2009 – Thanks for asking about Daisy…yup….she’s definitely “at home” here (see attached photo from last night)! She’s fallen into a comfortable routine of daily walks and squirrel harassment, sleeping on our bed, and meeting new friends around the neighborhood. She’s been to the vet for checkup and grooming and even spent five days at Mountain Pet Resort when we went to Charleston. She is still really obsessive-compulsive with the tennis ball or anything that we’ll throw for her (which can get tiresome) but when the ball magically “disappears” she pouts for a while, then relaxes. Jeez, that must have been the ONLY thing she did when she was a puppy. I did get her an “Easy-Walk” halter (I call it her “girdle”) to use when we trek around the neighborhood because I was afraid she’d hurt herself lunging after squirrels. Because the control comes from across her chest, it works like a charm. We may consider a couple of weeks of residential obedience training for her–she could use a refresher course.
Anyway, she’s happy and healthy and is a wonderful addition to our home!
Rumpo
March 17, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Rumpo!
March 19, 2009 – We are testing new names. We tried Rupert and Rudy last night………I’m not sure those names will stick. I’m sure we will have one confused dog before long. I do believe that Rumpo is enjoying himself. He loves the girls’ baby dolls and was carry one around the house yesterday while it was still harnessed into a baby stroller- it was hilarious. He played down on the dock with Rusty and Ian and splashed in the lake. He then had a great time running around with Gretta and my brother’s dog Gracie. He is actually really fast and almost kept up with Gretta, though she did leave him in the dust when she “turbo-charged”. During dinner, he calmly laid in his dog bed near the table while we ate and then got to lick plates with Gretta and Gracie- He got some steak and carrots. He has been very gentle with the girls and Ian. He did torment the cats a little as he pounced at them to play- he got hissing in return. By 10 PM he was exhausted and crashed on the bed next to me. Rusty fell asleep on the couch, so Rumpo made himself quite comfortable on Rusty’s side of the bed. Gretta graciously allowed him to sleep on the bed with her. He got back in his dog bed when Rusty bumped him out. He slept all night and has not had any accidents. He follows us around the house- nothing like having an 80lb speed bump constantly under foot. He is such a happy, loving boy. We love him!!

Yavon
March 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Yavon!
March 16, 2009 – She is fitting in so great with the family, we could not have asked for a sweeter dog. We named her Bella, and she is gentle and kind, very well behaved and Beautiful to look at. We are working on crate training her at the moment. Thanks for all that you do for these dogs.
March 20, 2009 – We wanted to give you an update on Bella and send some pictures. Bella is doing wonderful and getting used to her new home. She is a daddy’s girl and loves to sleep up against him every night. Bella is such an angel and we are so glad to have her part of our family. She has been great with the kids in the neighborhood and is being spoiled by all of us, she is perfect for us.
Bartow
March 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Bartow!
March 17, 2009 – Bartow is doing great. I think he is enjoying his new home and family. He likes to nap in his crate and had no issues at all when introduced. Thanks again !!!
Lauren
March 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Lauren!
March 15, 2009 – Just sending a quick email to update you on Lauren (now Selah). She is really doing quite well. She loves playing with the kids and her squeaky toy duck. At this point, there are some days that I would swear she’s grown overnight. Housetraining is going relatively well. Accidents are pretty few and far between (except yesterday since she apparently doesn’t like the rain). During the night, she wants to go out at about 2am and then again around 7 am. We’re really pleased and look forward to watching her grow.
April 12, 2009 – Just a quick update on Selah (formerly known as Laurens). She is truly doing great. She enjoys playing outside on the warm, spring days but really isn’t very fond of the rain. It’s amazing how big she’s getting (18lbs now). Her recent visit to the vet was quite comical. Unlike most people, she truly enjoyed her visit to the doctor. She’s quickly picking up on playing catch. Once she learns how to drop the ball, she’ll have it mastered. As of this week, she’s mastered climbing the stairs but has yet to figure out how to go back down. We’re looking forward to summer coming and watching Selah continue to grow.
Chatham
March 9, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Chatham!
Candler
March 5, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Candler!
March 9, 2009 – She is doing great. Seems to take everything in stride. After much discussion Garett added an “h” to her name so she is Chandler instead of Candler.. All the neighborhood kids have been down to see her and she just lets herself be handed from one to the other. Falls asleep every time she is in the car. Loves to play in the yard. Tried to join the kids in their basketball game on Saturday so Garett thinks she is going to be the next Air Bud.
Maggie Y
March 3, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Maggie Y!
March 13, 2009 – We recently took Honey on a puppy playdate with a friend of ours in their backyard. They have a great dane puppy (puppy, but Honey can almost walk right under her!). They had the best time and they ran and played together for a couple of hours. They enjoyed playing keep away with pine cones! She is such a good dog. Still no accidents in the house after that one. She’ll “kennel up” on request, and she barely ever barks (unless the cat taunts her). We start obedience training on the 26th – it’s an 8-week class – she’ll learn all sorts of stuff there. Here are some pictures the the dogs playing from the other day.
July 6, 2009 – I’m attaching some recent photos of Honey (Maggie). We just adore her. She is so sweet. Thanks so much, again for trusting her with us…we love her! Tony seems to be her favorite – when he’s home she just wants to play with him. If I throw a ball and he’s beside me, she’ll bring the ball back to him – LOL!! Maybe she just sees me all day and wants to give him the attention after he gets home! The kids love her and she loves them. She recently learned to swim and loves going in the water after a ball. I hope you enjoy the pictures!
Daisy
February 24, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Daisy!
Brinks
February 15, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Brinks!
February 16, 2009 – He first night was really good. He is SO sweet! What a cuddler! I was a dog sandwich all night. They LOVE each other! Josie is showing him all her toys and sharing so well. They are so happy! He listens so well! He’ll be really easy to train. He just met the cats and he did well. Interested, but not too pushy. The cats are ticked off, but they will adjust. Josie isn’t minding quite as well because she’s still so excited. But he follows us and she follows him, so it is easy. She just doesn’t want to be away from him at all. I already have no doubts that this was a great decision. We decided to name him Jacques, but we call him “JD” for short. He is actually a little bigger than her already, so I can’t wait to see how big he gets! Thank you again for another GREAT dog! I’ll send photos and keep you updated.
February 17, 2009 – We’ve named him JD and he’s doing great adjusting to his new environment. Josie brought him all of her toys one by one and made sure he knew exactly where all the squeakers were! They are already inseparable. He’s so sweet and such a cuddle bug, when not playing with his sister! I’ve attached a few photos for you! It’s hard to tell them apart, but oddly enough, he’s on the right in all the photos except the last shot.
Fred
February 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Fred!
Jasmine
February 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Jasmine!
February 16, 2009 – UNBELIEVABLE!!!! We all love her sooo much. She goes with Norman for 3-4 walks a day and they are learning to love each other!!! We are so happy. My husband does the “night duty” and I take the days. What a sweetheart!!!!! We all love her so much. I don’t know how we ever lived without her!!!!!
February 24, 2009 – Sully (formerly known as Jasmine) is such a great addition to our family. She is certainly daddy’s little girl!
March 10, 2009 – Jasmine..(Sully) is doing just great!! She had her second round of shots on March 1 at Loving Hands. She is 26 lbs. and she is growing so quickly. Her potty training is going well. She has only had 5 accidents since we have had her. We have gone 10 days with no inside tinkling!! We all love her so much. Norman is very protective of Sully and sleeps next to her crate. She is a ton of work, but worth every minute. Thank you again!
Romeo
February 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Romeo!
February 16, 2009 – He is great! He is doing a great job of giving each of us attention 🙂 Just goes from person to person for hugs and kisses.
Gaston
February 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Gaston!
Piper
February 14, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Piper!
February 16, 2009 – Thanks for inquiring about Piper. We decided to change her name to Ivy, a name she already is responding to! She has a new purple collar/ harness and leash, and ‘jingles’ with all three ID tags. She seems to have made herself right at home quickly. She loves to play with all the squeaky stuffed toys we have accumulated, along with the ones given to her from ‘The Pet Basket’ We all laugh when we hear the elephant trumpet sounds! She is a bit of a chow hound and eats everything she is given. Hopefully in time, she will realize food, along with water and love will always be here for her!
Her personality is amazing. She is very alert and very curious and seems to learn very quickly what is expected of her. She loves to watch what we are doing and just ‘be’ wherever we are. She will spontaneously come to us, give a thorough puppy licking and after a loving pet, soft kind words and a smile, will go off onto another adventure, her tail wagging constantly. She went for her first leash walk this morning with Summer. Ivy is truly a very special dog and we are so happy to have her Overall things are going very well. Summer seems to be adjusting to having a new friend. They potty together, eat together, play together etc. Only a couple of times has she told Ivy “I want to be alone” in doggy talk! Thank you to all the volunteers at LFS. Thank you to The Pet Basket. And a big thank you to Ivy/ aka / Piper’s foster Dad. Please, if you can, send him this information/photos so he will know she is in loving hands.
Dallas
February 2, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Dallas!
Darby
February 1, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Darby!
February 24, 2009 – Darby is doing really well and I wanted to send you a few pictures as you requested. She seems to love her new home and enjoys fetching as long as I can throw the ball. She gets along with children and other dogs extremely well, but does enjoy the occasional bark when something goes bump in the night. We bonded quickly and my favorite part of the day is when she sits in my lap while I watch TV at night.
Timon
January 29, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Timon!
February 20, 2009 – So sorry for the delay in getting some info out about “Timon” who we have renamed Cody….Anyway, he is doing fabulous, a little spoiled maybe, but growing fast and furious and seeming to love life w/ 3 crazy kids. He’s just over 3 months old now and we’ve had him for about 3 weeks. He’s adjusting to his crate, which honestly he doesn’t spend many daytime hours in. I am a substitute teacher, so I only work about 5-8 days a month, so I’m home a good deal with him. He’s taken to the leash fairly well, though he prefers to “walk” himself. In other words, he likes holding the leash in his mouth too. He adores the kids, especially my 11 year old daughter, Kathryn. Potty training is going as expected but I do see a good deal of improvement even in the last week. The best part is that he’s learning to go in our wooded area and not in the grass! We intend to start obedience school in March/April and go from there. Thanks for following up. I’ve attached a couple of pics.
October 20, 2010 – And here is Cody, all grown up and such a handsome boy, welcoming his new sister Miley into the family.
Aurora
January 28, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Aurora!
January 30, 2009 – Esa (formerly known as Aurora) is doing great. She slept much better on her second night and only got up once for potty and then fairly quickly fell back asleep until 6:20 am. She loves running in the yard with the kids and fetching the tennis ball. She has only had 1 little accident and is doing great on her potty training. She is a very mellow dog – I guess 3 kids can really wear her out. We are really enjoying Esa. Thanks.
February 12, 2009 – Here’s a quick update on Esa (Aurora). She is doing great, can’t believe the progress in just 2 weeks. She is sleeping in her crate at night without problem and is almost sleeping through the night consistently. She has only had 1 accident in the last 5 days and has let herself out our screen door to go to the bathroom – she is smart. The invisible fence was installed this week and she will be completely trained on it within a week. She enjoys playing with us and is getting comfortable with our routine. By the time the kids are in bed at 7:30, she is out for the night and is great. She is a great addition. Thank you.
Bear and Tux
January 24, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Bear and Tux!
February 12, 2009 – Bear is now named Ranger and Tux in now named Recon. They absolutely love running around and wrestling in their big yard. I’m so, so glad I adopted both of them! They love to play together and still sleep all smooshed together in a melted puppy pile in their crate – and they settle down fine to sleep through the night 6-8 hours. (They do a great job wearing each other out with puppy play during the day.) They met their new vet on the 28th for their shots and did fantastic. Recon weighed in at 13.2 and Ranger a whopping 14.8 lbs. They’re growing like weeds so I’m trying to take lots and lots of pictures! I’ve been lucky to be able to work from home since their adoption so we’re getting into a good routine with potty training and they seem to be getting the hang of it. Negotiating the deck stairs was a big deal the first few days but now they run up and down them to the yard. They especially like when the girl next door comes over to play (Sally the 7-month-old beagle). Pretty soon they will be towering over her – but for now, she gives them a good run for their money playing ‘chase’. Thanks to everyone at LFS for the wonderful service you do. These little guys are very lucky to have had such a good foster mom when they were new-born pups!
Will
January 24, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Will!
Onyx
January 24, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Onyx!
January 26, 2009 – “Onyx” now known as “Loco” (that means “Crazy” in Spanish. My kids named him after my father who played professional soccer in Mexico – that was his nickname) is settling in great. He is such a good dog. Got his first bath yesterday and not even a whimper. Loco has been running around the neighborhood with our kids (and every child and adult in the neighborhood for that matter). We had to keep bringing him in the house for some nap time to restore his energy. I attached a couple pictures of him. Thank you.
January 26, 2009 – Loco, “formally known as Onyx” which is now Little Loco, loves to cuddle and run and jump! He pees a ton, so we take him out once an hour. We are training him with small treats and a bell when he goes to the bathroom outside and he really seems to be picking it up. We hope by the end of week, he is potty trained. He didn’t like his new leash the first day here, but he is adjusting to it better. We have a large pet pen for him to sleep in at nighttime and we tried to put him in there the 1st night, wow, missed us too much so we let him roam in our kitchen. Much better. Well, his 2nd day with us, we played and napped and played and napped, with the entire family. So, when it came for bedtime alone again, Little Loco didn’t want to be alone! He cried for a short time, then fell asleep. When he woke up, he called for us, bright and early! He absolutely loves people and other dogs and plays with all his new toys too. He is a wonderful puppy and we can’t wait to take him with us on all our adventures! The kids all wanted to take pictures with them to school, so Tony printed them up last night. They hated leaving Loco to get on the bus this am and when the bus went around the block to pass us again, the entire neighborhood of elementary kids on the bus were all standing up waving to Loco! It was very cute!
Well, thank you for everything Lab Friends has done for us. Our girls are always having lemonade sales and they try to think of different ways to donate the money. We already talked about donating our first lemonade sale to Lab Friends of the South!
April 20, 2009 – A quick Loco update….he weighs 44 lbs, kind of likes the tennis ball but absolutely loves to chew sticks. His butt still wiggles when he is happy and wags his tail. He adapted very well to the invisible fence, likes to go on walks, but grabs part of the leash in his mouth to try to walk himself–very cute.
Dom Dom
January 24, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Dom Dom!
Asha
January 15, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Asha!
January 16, 2008 – Asha is now Maxie and she is amazing! She slept in her crate last night and I slept on the sofa so I could be near her. She woke up about every 2 hours. I took her outside and she went potty. She’s doing great with that. She’s eating and drinking well and she enjoys her treats for going potty. My husband is very happy we have her. His concern was that Julia was scared at first. But, she is really excited to have her. My son is absolutely crazy about her. Maxie is a very cuddly puppy and she loves to be held and loved. She has definitely bonded and taken to me very easily.
January 27, 2008 – Yes, Asha, aka, Maxie is a very happy puppy and no news is good news. She has a very loving home and is being well taken care of. Her training is going great. She is doing awesome being house trained and we started her obedience training with the Atlanta Dog Trainer company yesterday (they are great). We all love her so much. It’s amazing how much she has enriched and changed our lives.

Max
January 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Max!
January 15, 2009 – Max is doing well; Max and Clayton have bounded 100%, they are two peas and a pod, where one is the other is quickly following. Max is learning not to jump as much. Please let the gentleman who was handling Max know, Max is not scared to jump into the truck now. Thanks for letting us adopt Max.
March 3, 2009 – Max is doing very well. Cats, moles, and squirrels avoid our backyard now days when Max is out. Water temperature has been to cold to go out in the boat but he loves the sprinkler. Max is a great asset for Clayton and myself. We thank ya’ll for letting Max be a part of our family.
Mr. Snuggles
January 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Mr. Snuggles!
Pumba
January 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Pumba!
February 24, 2009 – We finally settled on a name for Pumba – Buster Brown! He’s a very self-assured little fellow who keeps all of us entertained with his antics. He and Bailey are getting along great and I think Buster is going to rule the roost before too long.
May 15, 2009 – Just look how handsome I have become!
Doc
January 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Doc!
February 20, 2009 – Rocky (formerly known as Doc) is doing great. Has a ball with the kids. He is actually at Crabapple Knoll Vet clinic right now. I was out of town a couple days, plus he needed his check up too. Picking him up tomorrow. I’m sure he is ready to come home too.
Dumbo
January 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Dumbo!
Aspen
January 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Aspen!
January 12, 2009- It was very nice meeting you today. I really appreciated the care and handling of the adoption of Aspen as it was an excellent experience. After my Daughter and I picked up the pup, I brought Aspen into the Pharmacy my wife works at and it was love at first sight. Of course all activities stopped when the staff and customers saw the puppy! She was a perfect lady in the store. So I promised pictures and here’s a few. One is Donna with the puppy and the other is Ally our 9 year old Chocolate Lab with the new puppy sharing toys in front of the TV. She seems to like going in the large crate and she went in and went to sleep after a long day of new experiences. The puppy sits on command already thanks to her Foster parents I’m sure! She gets along with Ally and jumps all over her when she sees her. Aspen found the door to the back yard and waits for us to let her out which was amazing for only being in the house a few hours. She loves to roam the large fenced in back yard and has been pretty good about asking to be let out. Very impressive for such a young pup. When it stops raining and the sun comes out again I’ll get more pictures. Aspen certainly is Calendar Pup material!
Nala
January 10, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Nala!
February 20, 2009 – I am glad you sent your email today as we have been meaning to provide you an update about Nala (now Mocha). She is the one of the sweetest dog we have ever had! Her and our existing dog Maddy have been best buddies since the moment we got home that Saturday. The play non stop and get along VERY well. See got her stitches out and my brother in law said she looked great. He guesses she may only be a year old, the same age as Maddy! We will send pictures soon. She has made herself at home and we are happy to have provided her with a loving family that is taking great care of her. If she had her choice, she would sleep with one of us every night! Thanks for all you do!
Harley
January 3, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Harley!
February 26, 2009 – We wanted to get you an update and send a picture of each of them. All of the kids are doing very well. It is a very busy house. Harley is keeping them on their toes, as she is a maniac!!! She is very active and Bear and Cypress love playing with her. Cypress has taken over the mother role, but I think Harley lives to torment Bear – a very laid back, placid lab who lives to eat cookies and sleep. All in all, I think Harley is becoming a great combination of the two. It is like a rolling oreo cookie in the house, her between the two bigger black labs!!!
Maggie
January 3, 2009 – Happy Gotcha Day, Maggie!
March 4, 2009 – Maggie is just happy and joyful every day. We are still working on the potty training. Everyone is on the same heartworm/flea med schedule now yay! Jordan and Maggie like to play and run around like nuts but will come running and sit for treats! Maggie is still sleeping in the crate right next to our bed since I don’t trust her to wake us up to go out and not pee in the corner. She likes to snuggle when we are getting ready to go to sleep or if I read for a little bit she will curl up with me but then I put her in the crate and she doesn’t mind too much. She and Jordan both like to chew on the same nylabone or the long petsmart wubbie dog at the same time. There are 15 different toys out, but they like to play together. Maggie loves the to play with a ball also, way more than Jordan does. Jordan has played ball more in the past couple of months than she had in the previous 2 years. She doesn’t want to miss out if Maggie is playing! We are very much enjoying our inside time together but are looking forward to spending more time outside as the days get warmer. She has lost 2 teeth that we know of. She likes to smell EVERYTHING when we walk up and down our block. She is a healthy eater and always checks to make sure Jordan has finished all of her food too. The picture where she is sitting there by the bowl acting like she is starving is funny. She has grown since I took that one a while ago. The kitty Jake still just pretty much tries to avoid her. He is pretty low key and she is so energetic.
Thank you for helping the dogs (and the people who love them!)
