The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show has decided to change sponsor because Pedigree’s commercials about shelter dogs are too serious for their broadcast. What I like about the Pedigree ads is that they don’t portray shelter dogs as victims, but as unique individuals. Their tag line, “Don’t pity a shelter dog. Adopt one” is one of my favorite lines that inspire me in what I do. This event made me think for the past few days and many questions came up.
The reality of shelter dogs is very hard: Any of us who has gone to pick up a dog from a shelter knows all too well how hard is to leave with only the dog you are schedule to pick up. Should we ignore it because it is too hard to watch? Can a love for the qualities and beauty of each breed coexist with a rescue philosophy? We all love a beautiful looking dog, yet is a good looking dog the right fit for your family? What defines beauty? Is a funny personality more important than beauty? How can we keep our shelter dog happy and how do they make us happy?
With this blog I am starting a new adventure and I hope to tackle some of these questions and many more, without forgetting to post funny stories from our dogs, dog tips and many ideas to keep your dog and your heart happy. I hope you can stay and join me in this adventure.
