Labrador Friends of the South is changing the future for homeless pets in black during national ‘Back in Black 2’ adoption promotion

(Southeast USA)(MAY 1, 2012) ─ Who are they? They are the dogs and cats in black. What is their mission? To find their forever home.
Black cats and dogs everywhere are donning their dark glasses and engaging their “flashy things” to wipe out the myths and stereotypes about black animals during Back in Black 2, a national adoption promotion.
Supported by national animal welfare organization Best Friends Animal Society®, about 100 animal rescue groups and shelters across the country including Labrador Friends of the South in Georgia are participating. Last year, the Back in Black adoption event was introduced to showcase black dogs and cats and give them the best chance at being adopted. More than 900 pets found homes nationwide.
This year, Agent D (Dog) at Labrador Friends of the South and the rest their furry super agents are ready to show off their personalities and dashing good looks to prospective adopters during “Back in Black 2” adoption promotion.
Labrador Friends of the South is holding a “Back in Black,” promotion between May 1 and May 31 to highlight adorable, adoptable black Labrador retrievers.
Adoption Fees For Our Black Labbies are $225 (normally $275)
City Dog Market has 200 “Black Ribbon Black Dogs Rule” cookies for BIB2 and they are selling them for $3-all of the money goes to Lab Friends (we have in store signage on this so please send all Lab Friends lovers over!).
’Even though they do make wonderful pets with great personalities, black dogs and cats are often overlooked for adoption, but why is that? After all, the color of a pet’s fur has no relationship to their ability to provide unconditional love, companionship and devotion,” said [your spokesperson]. “True it can be a bit of a challenge getting a good photo of a black cat or dog which is all the more reason to come meet them at [name of group] and find out what makes our pets in black special.
“All of us in animal rescue know this is true, that black cats and black dogs routinely get overlooked by potential adopters. There are negative stereotypes about black cats and dogs that simply aren’t true, said [last name of your group’s spokesperson]. “Just ask anyone who loves their beautiful black pet. They’ll tell you about all the wonderful qualities their pets possess and that they wouldn’t trade them for anything.”

This adoption event is part of Best Friends Animal Society’s mission of No More Homeless Pets®. Every day, approximately 9,000 pets are killed in shelters because they don’t have a home. Best Friends and the No More Homeless Pets® Network Partners are committed to saving them.

Debbie, I don;t know of an official lab rescue in AL. One the Best Friends website you can find a link to other agencies participating in this promotion. Instead if you just want a lab you can either drive to us or email me at labfriendinfo@gmail.com and I will give you a contact for an all breeds rescue in AL. Elena
