Happy Gotcha Day Dex!

MEET DEX: This adorable little guy is Dex. He’s a lab mix who is around 4 months old, and unfortunately has a pretty extensive case of demodex mange. Demodex is non-contagious to people or other dogs and is common in puppies who have been in a stressful environment, like a shelter! Dex will be taken to our vet’s office as soon as possible to get evaluated and start treatment. With a little time and some TLC, his hair will grow back and he will look good as new! Dex is a typical puppy who loves to play. He seems to like other dogs and just acts like he wants to play with them too. He is a cuddly boy with a great personality who deserves a second chance! Stay tuned for updates as we get this pup into a foster home and learn more about him!

We will be accepting contributions for his care, and if you would like to donate to Dex’s cause, please visit https://labradorfriends.com/donate-2/. We greatly appreciate it!!

  1. Dex Care Costs

Because Dex developed symptoms so suddenly, we had to act quickly and were not prepared for the added cost of isolation and special care. We now need your help so that Dex can continue to get the care he needs. If you are able, please contribute to his cause. As always, we are eternally grateful for everything we receive!!

Foster Update 10/09/17:  Dex couldn’t be more sweet!  He is such a good boy and loves toys. Dex is an absolute joy to foster. He is a happy puppy that loves to snuggle and plays well with other dogs.  He is doing well with crate training and house training.  Accidents have been because we didn’t stick to the schedule.

Dex traveled with us to Virginia for a family weekend.  He rode beautifully in the truck with the others.  The kids loved him and he
was patient and enjoyed the attention.  Our nieces walked him and he is great on a leash.  Everyone commented on how calm he was.
He tolerates his weekly baths and seems to enjoy the snuggle time during his “dry cycle”.  His fur is filling in nicely.

Dex can “sit” on command and we are working on “shake”.  He is food and attention motivated which makes training easier.

Someone is going to be extremely lucky to have this little boy as part of their family.

Update 09/29/17: We have some bad news 🙁

Our sweet little Dex came down with a case of kennel cough on Thursday and quickly worsened over night. He’s coughing more and sounds a lot worse today so the doctors have started him on a couple different medications to try to get things under control. Despite not feeling his best, Dex has kept his amazing attitude and gave me the sweetest smile and tail wag when I visited him today. He gets to keep his favorite toy with him in the isolation room and one of the technicians took this precious photo for me. They all tell me that he has stolen their hearts and is one of the best puppies around!!

Thank you in advance and a big puppy smooch from Dex!!
