Happy Gotcha Day Koda!
MEET KODA: *Warning, Graphic Photo* – Koda, a 2.5 year old male yellow lab mix. Koda clearly hasn’t had the best life so far. He was found by a good samaritan with a gruesome injury to his neck, apparently from an ingrown chain or wire. The nice person who found him brought him to the shelter, where he was immediately taken to a vet to be treated. LFS was contacted to help, and now Koda is safe, but his journey is not yet over. Over the next few weeks, Koda will continue treatment to heal his neck. While he remains in great spirits and is the sweetest boy, it may take several weeks for him to heal, and he will likely be left with a scar from his ordeal. We will update with Koda’s journey as we can. He’s already starting to heal and doing great so far. Once he’s all better and given the all clear by his vet, he’ll be ready to find his forever home.
Koda Update 05/30/19: Koda is doing amazing! His neck would is healing just as we would want. He will have a scar, but when his hair grows back it shouldn’t be too noticeable. He has a lot of energy and doesn’t know any commands that we can tell. He has a very goofy personality. He loves playing with other dogs but doesn’t know what toys are yet.

Koda is a look a like for my Judge . I adopted Judge from Charleston lab adoption…I think they closed or merger with lowcountry lab. He came for the Greenville area. 10 years ago, and I love him dearly. Definitely interested in adopting Koda

My wife and I are very interested in adopting Koda. We do not have a fenced in yard as we feel it is an injustice to the dog because it would not get the exercise it requires. It is far to easy too let a dog out to do it’s business. We believe if the dog gets wet when raining so should we. We adopted a Lab from Georgia Lab Rescue in July 2005 and unfortunately Scruffy (renamed Shelby) passed away this past March at the age of 15.

He is a good boy with some good energy. I’m very sad to hear about Scruffy, I remember you guys. That was a very long time ago. Wow 15 years old that is awesome.

Hey! We are the blessed adoptive family of the dog formerly known as “Coda”! We met and adopted him on Saturday, June 29, and we’ve changed his name to Detective Leonard W. Briscoe, aka “Briscoe”. This boy…OMG he is so huge & goofy! It took him all of 4 seconds in the house to hop up on my daughter’s bed and declare it his own. My wife tried to change our bedsheets, but she couldn’t because Briscoe had then claimed our bed for himself. Whatever horrible owner he had previously, someone certainly taught him how to enjoy life. He doesn’t even acknowledge his scar from his neck injury. After a day and a half, he is very comfortable around all of us, but we’re still working things out between Briscoe and our 4 rescued cats. They are terrorized! They’ll come around eventually. Briscoe has made friends with our neighbor’s 2 dogs (lab & newfy) and another neighbor’s chocolate.
I think Briscoe’s best quality is the height of his chin: table height. He doesn’t have to raise or crane his neck in order to take the pizza right off your plate. He’s not a picky eater, and is completely house trained.

Update on Briscoe (fka Koda): 3 weeks ago, he went completely blind. We took him to UGA VTH. They diagnosed severe chronic uveitis in his right eye, and severe (but not chronic) uveitis in his left eye. They tested and ruled out lots of causes, and ended up with auto-immune. We’ve been treating him with prednisone and steroidal eye drops since then. He is blind in his right eye, but he has regained sight in his left. I provide this update for all adoptive humans to realize that we don’t know our rescued dog’s history, so we need to check everything twice and then check again.
Another update on Briscoe (fka Koda): we’ve tapered off the steroids and are now steady on eye drops for another few weeks before his next checkup at UGA VTH. He can see as well as any other dog with vision in just one eye, but boy do we love this big fella somethin’ terrible. We just took him on his first family vacation – 3 days in the NC mountains – and he was fantastic. He played, he slept, he traveled, and everywhere we went Briscoe made new friends. He’s still very skittish when he meets a new grown man, leading us to believe that he originally injured his neck trying to escape a man who may have hurt him. But once we tell him “Briscoe, it’s ok”, he warms up. Everyone loves Briscoe! He has even made good friends with 2 of our 4 rescue cats. The third will just take time, and the 4th cat hates everybody, so we’re not concerned about her. We are so very happy we adopted Briscoe into our family!
